Eric coaching former BBNT athlete Sara Studebaker who is currently on the US Biathlon National Team
Eric Reynolds was raised in Mountain Home (no nordic skiing there) and graduated from the University of Idaho (sorry Bronco fans). After a half decade of jumping out of airplanes for the Army, he returned to Idaho but did get a great exposure to nordic skiing during a three year tour in Germany. He went to work teaching skiing at Bogus Basin in the winter and fighting wildland fires in the summer and working for the National Guard (still jumping out of airplanes.) The German exposure to nordic skiing grew to an obsession and he competed in numerous citizen races and competed nationally in biathlon. He qualified for and competed for the National Guard in various international races, competing in Europe for three seasons.
He transitioned to year around firefighting (still jumping out of airplanes) which ended national level competition. Eric retired (finally done jumping out of airplanes) three years ago as Chief of the BLM Boise Smokejumpers, arguably the finest wildland firefighting organization in the world (maybe a little personal prejudice expressed). Since retirement, he has spent half his time in Boise and half in the wilds of the Northwest conducting research for his next book on fishing. (He expects to be done with this research in twenty to thirty years. And it will be his first book, but technically, this is his next book.)
Eric strives to stay fit by competing in local running events and last year qualified for and finished the Boston Marathon (ran with a former Bogus Basin Nordic Team member).
Eric has assisted with the nordic team as his other career has allowed for over twenty years. (He has a collection of three different team jackets.) During this time, he has coached numerous successful national level skiers and international biathlon competitors.
