Bogus Basin Nordic Team
Who We Are
The Bogus Basin Nordic Team (BBNT) is a non-profit Nordic ski team focused on young athletes ages 6–19 in the Treasure Valley. BBNT’s goal is to offer a range of opportunities for Nordic skiers of all abilities and to provide quality coaching, education, and skill development with the intention of creating lifetime athletes. The organization is dedicated to all aspects of Nordic skiing, including learning how to win, how to lose, and most importantly, how to give one’s best.
The pursuit of Nordic skiing teaches us many valuable life lessons, including focus, discipline, self-confidence, teamwork, responsibility, sportsmanship, and the value of clean living. All of these attributes are qualities that will continue long after the ski team experience is done. Through this, we build successes on the racecourse and in life.
BBNT believes that there is a social, physical, emotional, educational, psychological, and spiritual benefit involved in all of our programs. Reaching out to the community to bring awareness to the benefits and healthy lifestyle that Nordic skiing offers is very important to the future of our families.
Our Programs
Building strong communities is a key focus of our program. BBNT’s outreach effort aims to bring together people living in the Treasure Valley from all walks of life to take part in sports activities and to improve self-esteem and confidence. While BBNT has a common set of goals for the various populations we serve, we do not take a one-size-fits-all approach. Through our diversity, we become better people and develop a stronger sense of community.
Currently, BBNT has a college attendance rate of 99%, and many of our athletes are at top colleges and universities in the nation.

Adaptive Skiers
The BBNT Adaptive Program provides year-round recreational, training, and competitive athletic programs specific to Nordic skiing for individuals with physical disabilities. The basic program will follow the successful BBNT able-bodied model, which includes recreational skiing, camps, clinics, and competitive opportunities with a direct pipeline to the US Adaptive Ski Team. The program will assist community agencies and medical facilities along with ski areas and ski clubs to identify, promote, and support diverse athletic opportunities.
Refugee Program
It is BBNT’s intent to build a strong support base for a long-term sustainable program, thereby providing a vehicle for refugees to create new social and support networks, improve self esteem, and reduce social isolation. This community building is particularly important for newly arrived refugees who face a range of challenges such as seclusion, language barriers, trauma, and the need to learn about US culture and values. Refugees not only participate as core members of the Nordic team, but they also create opportunities for themselves and their communities. This fosters in them a sense of contributing and belonging
Youth At Risk
BBNT has a commitment to youth impacted by such factors and provides a positive–and often life changing—experience through the sport of Nordic skiing. According to “Learning to Play and Playing to Learn,” a 2009 report written by Ann Rosewater for Team Up for Youth, sports positively impact and engage youth at risk, teaching them important skills, drawing them into the task of learning, and connecting them to fellow students and caring adults. The report states, “High-quality organized sports are a gateway to academic achievement, better grades, improved chances of attending college and success in the labor market.” These benefits are especially important for underserved youth.
